About Box Hill School

School Overview

Box Hill School is a co-educational day, flexi, weekly and full boarding school for girls and boys aged 11-18. We are a founding member of Round Square, a global network of schools that share a passion for learning through experience and character education, basing its educational philosophy on the teachings of educationalist Kurt Hahn. We follow this philosophy through our IDEALS of Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service which underpin our school ethos and values.

The school is located just 40 minutes from central London, in the heart of the beautiful Surrey Hills, easily accessible and just 30 minutes from Heathrow Airport and 25 minutes from Gatwick Airport.

Boarding Overview

The Independent School’s Inspectorate report, 2019 stated “They (the students) enjoy school and thrive in the nurturing and supportive environment provided by the excellent pastoral care system and family atmosphere in boarding and day houses.”

Boarding life is structured around 6 boarding houses, all within a home-from-home environment. Pupils are placed according to age and gender, with a mix of nationalities and cultures. Our fees include weekly weekend trips as well as a multitude of house and campus based activities.

Our focus overall is on helping each pupil to achieve their full potential academically and in their personal development. They are encouraged, nurtured and challenged in all that they do.

We are proud of the independent, well-rounded and resilient young people who graduate from Box Hill School.

Extracurricular Overview

We are committed to producing well-rounded young people which is why we provide every pupil with a wide range of co-curricular options to develop their interests and to gain life skills. They participate in activities from over 50 options which are timetabled during the school day on three afternoons a week. Pupils can choose from reading, coding, playing chess, producing podcasts and many more. They can advance their talents through lessons in art, fashion and textiles, jazz, drama production, or even zen colouring. Of course, athletic interests are very well catered for as well, with team sports and weekly fixtures along with many other sporting/active options on offer.

We are actively involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme which runs in parallel to our programme of expeditions.

As a Round Square school, there are also opportunities for pupils to participate in global and regional conferences, exchange programmes and overseas community service projects.

What their Students Say

“I was drawn to Box Hill School because of the co-curricular activities programme. The variety definitely makes this the best place to study! The activities are a great chance to meet talented people from other year

groups that we don’t normally see in the school day.”

“I joined Box Hill School because I always dreamed of living in a boarding school and experience the UK as I find it to be a very beautiful country. In addition, I wanted to improve my English skills. Over the first month, I was able to meet even more people from different cultures and made many friends. Together, with my friends, we explored London and the countryside around the school more. It was the most amazing time of my life!”
